Rag Quilt Bag Class
A couple of weeks ago, I showed some awesome ladies how to make the Rag Quilt Bags that I sell in my shop. They picked out their own fabric and went to town! It was loads of fun and I think they had fun too.
If you are interested in attending another class or have any ideas for me just leave me a comment!

T-Shirts
I have been taking a sewing break to bottle all the veggies in my garden! But now I am back!
----------------------------------
Have you ever tried to replace the collar in a worn out, stretched out t-shirt?
I tried my hand at this today... on 3 shirts to be exact. My FIL has 3 shirts from England that would be very expensive to replace. (i.e. 2 plane tickets to England are not cheap!)
So after visiting 5 different fabric stores I finally found white ribbed knit fabric. How is it they can have every color but white? But that is another blog post.
It was really difficult because the shirts are so worn out (they are his most favorite shirts!) that every where I sewed ended up creating more holes when they got stretched as I sewed.
So finally figured everything out on the third attempt. I stay-stitched the collar of the shirt to prevent from stretching. Then I attached the new collar with a zig zap stitch to help it stretch over my FIL's head when he puts it on. And the final tip - while stitching on the collar pull on it so it stretches and the stay-stitching will keep the shirt still so when you are done the collar will lay flat!
They turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!
(Sorry - no pictures to post at this time. But I recently discovered that I have enough fabric to make 4 quilts! So hopefully you will see some of that stuff soon!)

Brenda's Baby Quilt
Brenda really likes the teal/browns and bright colors for her baby boy that is coming this week. I gave it to her yesterday so now I can publish pictures!
This quilt was a big experiment. I think I just followed the quilt and it showed what it wanted to be!
The original idea was something more of diamonds/squares, but I really like the zig-zag look!

Denim and Yellow Quilt
Tuesday, July 13, 2010
blah...
So I had this idea for a quilt a few months back.
A month later I cut it out....
A month later I sewed the top together.....
The next day I tore it all apart.....
The day after that a sewed it all back together again....
The day after that I put the border on.....
The day after that I took the border off.....
Maybe today I can take another step forward without taking two steps back..... Its no wonder quilts are so expensive to buy. It takes forever just to sew them together.

TV Cover
This project ended up being kind of hard to wrap my head around. But once I figured it out it was pretty easy to make.
The TV is just a rectanglar/ box shaped flat screen. But it has handles mounted on the sides that they wanted access to and the stand in the back had to be worked around. It had to be tight enough it would stay on but loose enough it could slip on and off easily.
Here are the access holes for the side handles.
And the back view. I did darts on the top to take care of the excess fabric from the stand.
I know it kind of just looks like a garbage bag. It is actually black vinyl. Like the kind you would use on a picnic table cover. It is soft on the inside and water proof on the outside.
It turned out pretty cool!

Pillow Case Dress
On a whim I decided I wanted to make a pillow case dress. I have been seeing them everywhere and thought they were adorable. So I went through my scraps, found this tutorial to figure out the arm holes, and this is what I came up with.
Its kind of long, but it is for a 4 year old, not a 2 year old.
Not bad for one hour of sewing!

Vacation is over!
My vacation is over and I diving head first back to work!
First on my agenda is making a cover for a flat screen TV.
The Rose Shop in Sandy has a large flat screen TV that they are using in their green houses for wedding etc. They do not want it to get it scratched by tree limbs or accidentally watered.
So they asked me to make a cover for it.
The tricky part.... it has to be waterproof, sturdy, yet soft so it won't scratch the TV. And it has to fit around the TV stand too - so a very weird shape.
So I did my research. Outdoor canvas was nice, but only water-resistant, not water proof, and not very soft. Clear plastic was definitely water proof, but I would have to find something soft for the inside and then I would have to mess with two layers, plus it rips easily and its hard to sew. But then I thought of vinyl. It was sturdy, and water proof. I went to JoAnns and I found some that had a really soft, almost fleece, lining attached to it. And it came in black! Bonus!
So I got the approval to use that vinyl fabric, took lots of measurement, got to work!
It is done and I am going to deliver it soon. I will take pictures then and post them.
I am so excited! It turned out a lot better then I expected!

Current projects...
So I have kind of been taking a sewing sabbatical.....
Last week I made a bag for my mom's Cricket machine. It was a great learning experience on how to sew with vinyl and canvas together.
I have also been helping a cute friend make some quilts for her daughters bunk beds. A super adorable pink, fushia, black, and green!
I have had tons of ideas and lots of thoughts, but I haven't really put anything into motion.
I did find a new project though. We got new windows so I decided it was a good time to wash the curtains. Needless to say, I found out the hard way that my purple kitchen curtains should not be dried in the dryer. They shunk right up like a wool sweater. Kind of cool looking after, but nothing to put in the windows... So I need to start looking around and decide if I want to do the same idea or take the opportunity to change things up a bit.
Anybody have any good ideas of what would look good in a kitchen bay window with seating in it?

Recent Stuff
These are the finished product from this post. They look very nice on my hubby!
I saw this post and decided I should make one of my own. I was super easy to make and turned out super cute and functional. Just make sure you get the heavy duty suction cups from the hardware store. The ones from Walmart were not worth the packaging they came in...

New Quilt Idea
My mother in law makes the best camping/picnic blankets out of denim. They are so durable, yet soft. I love them!
I was going through all my fabric scraps the other day and discovered a bunch of denim.
So I thought...hey, I should make a quilt out of this!
So that is what I will be working on between getting ready for the next boutique and the upcoming vacations!

Newest Projects
I dragged my husband to the fabric store the other day. He is such a great shopping partner!
Now I have four new projects!
These ones will be shirts for my husband. He is so tall it is hard to find clothes that fit him. He also picked out some cool snaps to go with them so I don't have to make any button holes!
These are going to be some adorable quilts that I am going to put in my Etsy Shop.
Keep checking back to see the finished projects!

NEW!!! Pocket Rice Bags
NEW ITEM!!!
I am so excited about this! I have been working on it for over a month now!
It is a Pocket Rice bag. It is a rice bag that has four pockets for four individual rice bags.
You can use just one insert at a time or all four! Or use just two for an eye bag!
The straps are awesome! You can use them to tie the rice bag to you to keep it in place. Or you can use them to help hold the rice bag in place so you are not straining your arms to keep the bag in place!
The rice bags can be plain or lavender scented.
I have bought a lot of super awesome fabric to make these with!
This awesome rice bag has all the things that you love in a rice bag and more! It is compartmentalized with four pockets for four small rice bags. Use as many, or as few rice bag inserts at a time. Use only one for pin pointed therapy, use two for an eye bag to relax, or use all four to relax your spine. The straps on the side can help tie the bag in place or can help with placement so you are not straining your arms to keep the rice bag on your back.

Microwave on high for one to two minutes for a moist heat. It will keep its heat for about two hours depending on how long the are microwaved. Please do no microwave for longer then 3 minutes to prevent the risk of the rice burning.
Place in freezer in a plastic bag overnight for cold therapy.
This pocket rice bag comes with four plain scented rice bags.
Lavender scented rice bag inserts are also available in my shop.
The outer bag is fully machine washable and dry-able. Please keep the inner rice bags away from water.
This outer bag is about 17 inches by 4.5 inches. (43 cm by 11 cm) The straps are each about 18 inches long. (45 cm)
