Purple Pinwheel Quilt

I had some fun with this one. There really is no back story. It just happened!

I love how crazy it is!
Check it out in my Etsy shop here.

Grandma's Quilt

My maternal grandmother was quite the quilter. She was a member of the Quilt Guild (like me!), she taught quilting classes, and made quilts to support the family and to donate to people in wheel chairs. I remember when I was small she came to my house and taught me and my sisters how to make quillows.

She made this log cabin quilt for my mother sometime around 1990, a few years before she died. It is has loved and abused. It seems that one of the fabrics used just seemed to have disintegrated after all the years of use. My mom asked me to fix it but was so afraid to even touch it. It has all of my grandmother's hand quilting stitches in it. I feel like I would be ruining it if I tore it apart to fix it.

So this is what we came up with. Some wall hangings. There was a couple of squares that hid minimum wear and tear so I cut those out, and re-used the original binding to finish the edges.

I didn't touch the quilting. That needs to stay just the way it is.

I love that we could rescue it, and not have it end up in the garbage.

Custom Brown Wallet

This is another custom wallet order from my Etsy shop.  This time it is in a fun brown retro circle fabric.

It had a velcro closure, bill fold, 4 card pockets, a zipper pouch, and a clear plastic ID pocket.

It is quilted on the outside. An awesome lady wallet.

First Mug Rug

Something I have recently discovered in the quilting world in mug rugs.  I don't know if it is new to the quilting world if if it is just me, but they are cute and everywhere.  They are basically a half size of a placemat. It is somewhere you can put your mug and snack. I am assuming this is a big thing for ladies for thier coffee of tea. So I decided I wanted to try them out.
Here is what I came up with.

I like that they are so small that I don't have to make a big quilt just to try out a quilting technique or a particular square.
This also doubled as another project for Quilt Guild. Everyone was asked to bring orphaned quilt squares (quilt squares without a project) then everyone mixed them up and took one and was challenged to make something new out of it. So I can not claim the yellow and white square, but I can claim everything else about it. And I love it! Check it out in my Etsy shop.

Hexie Snowflake

This year in Quilt Guild the president is giving us a project to do every month. We actually go home with a quite a few each month. This was one of the from January. I finally got it hung up.

There is this little wall in my kitchen that has been bare since we moved in 7 years ago. I have a little idea that I want to make a few little seasonal quilts I can change out through the year. What I really want is a little shelf with a quilt bar on it that I can hang them up. But that might be a project for another day. Till then I will try and work on the quilts this year.

How many words does it take to describe purple?

 Violet, lavender.... purple.

I love how this one turned out. It is so pretty with all the different shades.
It is available here in my shop.

Have a great week!

The First Finished Quilt

It is finished! I love how the quilting turned out.

It is not what I was planning on. I guess I need to practice more free motion quilting. It was supposed to be more of a figure 8 type stitch but it turned into a wavy line. I like it and I echoed it in the binding stitch.

There are giant X's in the squares.

The back is a solid coordinating pink.

Now it is time to plan out the next one. I am thinking.... purple!
