Dahlia for my Mom and Kyle

 The annual "Make a Giant Quilt for One of my Parents" this year went to mom and step dad, Kyle.

My husband helped my pick out the pattern. My older sister helped pick out the color scheme, and my younger sister helped me pick out the fabrics. (I think. I have worked on it for a year so that might be wrong.)

 It is a giant Dahlia.  I was so scared of the curved piecing and 'y' seams that I made a practice one first before I did the real thing!

Crazy Quilt

 This is fun crazy quilt I made with my local quilt guild.

There is 12 different block on front. All with varying degrees of difficulty and craziness.

I thought the back should be fun too so I chose a bright multi colored chevron and lovely piece of teal fabric.

I love how bright and fun it is! It was really hard to see how great it was going to be when I made each block, but I LOVE how it turned out!

New Year!

Welcome to 2015!

I had a few Christmas presents that I made, that I wanted to share with you. But I either forgot to take pictures of them, or I am waiting for better pictures.  So you will have to wait for that.

But looking ahead to the new year, I still have some of the same goals. Make at least one quilt a month, with another year long project, e.i. Christmas present. I want to learn some new skills and improve on the skills I have. I think I might actually try and enter one of my quilts into a quilt show.  But I think I need just a little more confidence for that one.

So keep an eye out for more posts about my projects and thing that are going on!

Tree Skirt and Stockings

 We got our tree  up on Sunday so I can finally show you my finished projects I have been working on.

I have always wanted a real pretty tree skirt but I would only think about it when we put the tree up and by then there is no time to do anything. 

I finally got my act together this year! I found some things on Pinterest that I liked. I looked at some tutorials and come up with my own pattern. I love being about to make things up and be crafty.

The stockings like of evolved from the tree skirt. I wanted them to all be the same, but scrappy some how, and I was short on that kind of fabric.

My fabric stash came to the rescue and I love the finished product!

Now I just need to hang up our stockings with care and hope that St. Nicholus will soon be here!

Wall Hangings

 I have been trying to keep my WIPs pile small. (Work in Progress). So I have been working on the smaller wall hangings while I work on the large Christmas pile. 

 The first project was a class I took at Quilt Fest.  It is an appliqué Christmas tree. The pieces were cut out using an AccuQuilt Go.

I even put a label on it! I am looking forward to hanging this up after Thanksgiving!

The next project was a project from the Main Street Quilters. It is a Red Work Center with small crazy blocks as borders.  

There are pinwheels, bowties, square in squares,  and a rick rack border. 

There are lots of little pieces with lots of things to look at!

The last one is a Fall Pumpkin Hexie. 

The pumpkin is two different fabrics and the plaids are soft flannels.

The back is a fun bunny fabric.

It is fun to get a bunch of small projects done. Especially ones I can hang in my house!

Custom Orders

 My last few orders have been custom orders! That is so exciting to see people enjoy my item and be able to make something special just for them!

There have been a bunch of box orders.

And a bunch of hand warmer orders. These ones are going to a bunch of teachers and ground duty workers at a school to keep warm when they are outside!

In other news, Etsy started offering a swipe device that connects into a smart phone or tablet so their vendors can use them to accept credit cards at boutiques. It so awesome so I signed up as soon as I found out! The best part is that it was free! It came in this really cool wooden box that doubles a sign holder that says I accept credit cards! I am so excited to use it!

Busy Week at Boutique and Quilt Fest

Sept 16th-20th was really crazy for me. Besides my usual duties at home I was also participating in a Simple Treasures Boutique and the annual Quilt Fest put on by the Utah Quilt Guild.

For the boutique, I have got set up down to a science.It used to take me 3 hours to get my booth set up and now I am down to just over an hour!  Take down used to take me an hour or more and now I am down to half an hour!

I also changed things up a little bit this time. Will suggested that I use my quilt I made with the Craftsy Block of the Month as my backdrop. Kind of a sampler showing what I can do. I loved the idea so I did it!

Quilt Fest they had all sorts of fun stuff to see and do.

There was a vendor mall and a quilt show that was fun to wander around.They had all sort of fun signs around reminding people not to touch the quilts.

 There was a bunch of awesome quilts. This one reminded me of some of Mary Lou Weidman's work. She was the presenter at one of the luncheons. She used to be a painter and switched to quilting. Her quilts tell stories and I would love to make a quilt like this that tells a story about my family.

This quilt is about a queen size but the pieces are 1-2 inches square. They call it a post stamp quilt because the pieces are the size of a postage stamp.

I took two classes there. The first one was from Linda Ballard. She is a national teacher that teaches a lot of simple yet amazing designs. She also does a lot of quilting cruises. (Another thing for my bucket list!) I took her Curved Log Cabin class. Here is my machine taking a break from working all day. She was impressed with how fast I sew. I guess when I am in a class with a bunch of ladies that can barely walk or see it is easy to be the first one done.

This blue one reminds me of a quilt my Grandma made for my mom.

Here is out design wall. My pieces are the set of four green ones.

My other class for an appliqué Christmas tree. Here is our show off wall! (My tree isn't up there.) I took a little bit longer to do mine because I bought the wrong kind of fusible web. But th teacher was awesome and had some there that I could use.

Now I just need to finish up my Christmas Tree and Curved Log Cabin so I can show them off!
